Come Fly With Me

Keen Zine: January 2024 Issue

Every once in a while, I stumble across a place that feels like a portal—one foot in the past, the other stretching toward the future. The TWA Hotel at JFK Airport is exactly that. It’s not just a hotel; it’s an architectural love letter to the Jet Age, a bold statement of retro-futurism that leaves me a little breathless every time I step through its doors.

In this January 2024 issue of Keen, I wanted to capture that feeling of being suspended between eras—the golden days of air travel and the optimism of what’s to come. This issue is also filled with changemakers, intentional living lessons, and conversations that remind me why I love creating this zine in the first place.

Why the TWA Hotel Captures My Heart

From the moment you walk into the terminal-turned-hotel, you’re wrapped in the sweeping curves of Eero Saarinen’s architecture (pages 15-23). The chili-pepper red carpets, the futuristic lines, and the panoramic windows looking out onto the runway all tell the story of an era when air travel was pure glamor and possibility.

And then there’s Connie—the stunning Lockheed Constellation aircraft that’s been reborn as a cocktail lounge. I wrote about how Connie feels like an invitation to slow down, sip something classic, and let yourself be transported back to a time when travel was all about the journey. It’s mid-century modern bliss, down to every last rivet and curve.
